Celebrating 50,000 Strong: Let’s Dream Big for 2024!

Dear Remote Work Malaysia members,

High fives and confetti emojis because we just hit 50K members!

In just 7 months, we have gone from zero to a bustling hub with a compelling vision – making remote work healthier, more productive, more fulfilling. At the heart of this vision lies my personal passion – revitalization of small towns. Specifically, the charming cafes that dot the small towns. Imagine turning them into the ultimate remote work paradise.

To make this dream come true, we have created a little gem called “Remote Work Spots” Google Map. Cafes shout out their work-friendly seats, and voila – your treasure map to the most mood-boosting work spots across Malaysia!

Let’s talk big plans for 2024:

Keeping it fresh: Our Facebook community is our home. Let’s keep it spam-free and keep the content beneficial and nutritious.

Café hunting made easy: Finding work-friendly cafés should be as fun as finding your favourite movie for movie night. We are on it!

Community Coworking Days: Think one-day colleagues, topic discussions, and a showcase of coolest gadgets. It’s gonna be your new favourite workday of the month.

And what’s on dream list?

Remote Work Fest 2024: Picture a massive nationwide coworking festival. Let’s bring the party to every corner of Malaysia.

Spreading the word: Let’s take our conversation to bigger platforms and wider audience – think conferences, webinars, panel discussions. We want to be where the thinking is.

Accelerator program: Take Remote Work Spots marketplace to the moon and back. We’re gunning for a spot in an accelerator program to turbocharge our journey.

Big virtual bows and shoutouts to all of you – for the feedback, for supporting one another, and for asking mind-blowing questions. You rock.

To the 50K members in our tribe, here’s to a New Year packed with big dreams, inspiration, and tonnes of connection!

Virtual high fives!

50,000 Members: A Continually Humbling Journey.

It seems like just yesterday that I was working from my laptop in the car service centre and decided to reach out to Wan Xin and talk about this Facebook group she had started. Fast forward six months, and here we are celebrating our milestone of reaching 50,000 members.

It’s been an incredibly humbling journey. Whether it’s discussions within the posts in our Facebook group, or getting to know members during our Coworking Day event, it’s been a great privilege to be able to meet and listen to so many different journeys and perspectives from our members.

There are a couple of projects gestating within Remote Work Malaysia that I feel will help take our community to another level. We’ll do our best to get the foundations right, nurture, and launch those projects.

Most importantly, I’d also like to thank everybody for being a part of our lovely community. You are what makes Remote Work Malaysia special. I hope to meet you in person soon.

Cheers,
Matt

Remote Work Spots

Need to escape your home yet don’t want to travel an hour to your office?

Wan Xin’s most passionate initiative within Remote Work Malaysia would be our Remote Work Spots solution.

We’re compiling a publicly shared database of spots that are friendly to remote workers. It’s currently a Google Map with custom locations, but we’ll be improving the information via crowd sourced data from our members and revamping the interface for the benefit of all.

If you’re a member or developer who has ideas and wants to contribute to this project in any way, please reach out to Wan Xin via email at wanxin@remotework.com.my.

Remote Work Malaysia Jobs

The most common types of posts and requests we have in our community are on the topic of job search or the hiring of talent. While we currently only allow self-promotion on our weekly #KerjaKhamis post and advertising/recruitment on the weekly #MarketplaceMonday post, we hear our community and are thinking hard on a solution to address this demand. In the meantime, whether you’re looking for a job or searching for talent, you can stay up to date on this project by joining the waitlist here.

If you’re a business looking to hire talent, or have any ideas to cater to the demand, please reach out to Matt via email at matt@remotework.com.my.

Coworking Day Event

One of the most popular activities on Remote Work Malaysia is our regular Coworking Day event. It’s a simple event where our members gather to get to know each other, work together (or even work alone to focus), network, have coffee, or even to experience a change in environment.

Meet ups are usually in a coworking space, so that members can experience different workspaces, or at a cafe, where we can enjoy the cafe vibe and enjoy gourmet coffee and food.

We understand that while we love working remotely, there are times where we want to meet other people, change our working environment, or learn from others, and what better way to do that than to meet and learn from other remote workers who fully understand this lifestyle.

We’re planning to have two meet ups in January 2024, so do subscribe to be notified when we announce the next event!

Staying up to date with Remote Work Malaysia

While most of our discussions happen in our active Facebook Community, we notice that many members often miss out on very useful posts, such as our Coworking Day event, due to the way Facebook’s algorithm displays posts. Therefore, we always encourage members to subscribe to our newsletter, which ensures that you won’t be left out. Registrations for events and meet ups are always emailed out first.
