About the role:

The team is growing fast and embracing new challenges, so we’re looking to hire a new WordPress Web Developer to join the Design & Development team.

This is a fast-paced, fast-learning position where you’ll be focused on building websites for a diverse group of clients, as well as supporting existing customers.

As both a building and a maintenance role, you’ll typically find yourself:

  • Developing custom WordPress websites from designs provided by a Web Designer.
  • Creating custom theme WordPress (& WooCommerce) PHP templates using advanced custom fields.
  • Making changes to existing website templates (styling and functionality) across various content management systems (mostly WordPress but including Shopify and others)
  • Managing web servers, including setup, configuration, and administration across a diverse set of server and technology stacks.
  • Conducting ad-hoc troubleshooting and bug fixing of websites, web servers, and domain hosts.
  • Performing website migrations, website updates, performance optimisation, security assessments, and malware removals.
  • Developing API integrations, payment gateway integrations, and SMTP relay integrations.
  • Utilising workflow and collaboration systems for version control.
  • Implementing technical SEO specifications, including schema / structured data, and Apache .htaccess configuration.
  • Implementing web analytics and data visualisation setups, including conversion tracking, event tracking, and cross-domain tracking (mostly Google Tag Manager, GA4, Looker Studio, and native platform analytics).

What we’re looking for:

We’re seeking someone with a minimum of 4 years of professional web development experience in a team environment. You will have experience with the following technologies:

  • WordPress / WooCommerce.
  • JavaScript, CSS / Sass, HTML.
  • PHP, MySQL, NGINX, cPanel.
  • Git / SVN.

You will have hands-on experience building WordPress websites and can demonstrate your abilities through your impressive track record of completed projects. You will have a working knowledge of functions.php and possess the ability to achieve desired outcomes with minimal use of plugins.

Demonstrated experience with the following is also desirable:

  • Shopify, Drupal, Joomla, Squarespace, Webflow, and other CMS.
  • Gutenberg.
  • Bootstrap and other frontend frameworks.

Bonus points if you can also demonstrate experience and capabilities with:

  • UX, UI, and web design.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, or other design & prototyping tools.
  • Digital marketing tools and platforms.

Detailed Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Build custom WordPress websites with designs provided by Web Designer, including export of design components, styles, and assets (images, SVG), responsive web development, styling using CSS (Sass), advanced JavaScript, and use ofweb fonts, ensuring cross-device, cross-platform, and cross-browser compatibility and accessibility.
  • Creating custom theme WordPress (& WooCommerce) PHP templates using advanced custom fields, including complexdatabase queries, complex sorting/filtering features, custom post types, and custom taxonomies.
  • Make changes to existing website template styling and functionality as per briefs across various CMS (WordPress largely, but also occasionally Shopify, Drupal, Joomla, Squarespace, Webflow, etc).
  • Web server setup, configuration, and administration across a diverse set of website servers and technology stacks (LAMP,cPanel, Plesk, Cloudflare, etc).
  • Conduct ad-hoc troubleshooting and bug fixing across various websites, web servers, and domain hosts, includingtroubleshooting of DNS and email deliverability.
  • Website migrations, updates (themes, plugins, servers), loading speed and performance optimisation, security assessments,and malware removals.
  • Technical SEO implementation, including schema / structured data, Apache .htaccess configuration (301 redirects,mod_rewrite, etc), custom XML sitemap development, and web crawler optimisation (robots.txt, meta tags, etc); SEO specifications will be provided.
  • API integrations across diverse platforms, which may include websites, CRM systems, email marketing systems, ERPsystems, accounting systems, and other SaaS platforms.
  • Utilisation and management of workflow and collaboration systems for version control (Git, SVN).
  • SSL configuration, payment gateway integrations, and SMTP relay integrations.
  • Web Analytics, Dynamic Remarketing, and product data feed integration, including Google Tag Manager, GA4, EnhancedEcommerce, Data Layer, Looker Studio, Facebook Dynamic Ads, Google Merchant Centre, conversion tracking, eventtracking, cross-domain tracking, and custom dimensions.
